Orchard Street Pottery
The pottery studio is in a corner of an old barn in Brattleboro, Vermont, at 658 Orchard Street. Potter Walter Slowinski makes teapots, bowls, pitchers, mugs, teabowls and other functional forms, firing them using wood as a fuel. The process has its historical roots in the ancient traditions of Japan, referencing and honoring the beauty found in the natural world. The pieces are initially made on the potter's wheel, then altered in various ways, giving a sense of tension, of movement. Wood-firing and salt-glazing create a unique, subtle, natural-looking patina on the surface of each pot.
